Struktur und Form in der Musik
von Johann Sebastian Bach Between August 23 and September 23 2000 the city of Erfurt in former Eastern Germany organized a sculpture symposium to commemorate the 250th aniversary of the death of Johan Sebastian Bach. Seven sculptors were invited from Austria, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands.
Thirty four stones were waiting for the sculptors. They were given the assignment to make sculptures which would echo the music of Bach. Sylvius von Kessel, the organist of the Dom Church prepaired a text giving essential background information on Bach and his music. The works will be placed along the river Gera - in the old city center - for a period of two years. After this there is a good chance that they will be bought by Erfurt with the support of sponsors. This site wil present the artists, show you pages on the working phase and the results of the symposium.
