Information about the island
Paros is one of the nicest islands in the Cycladic group of islands.
It has an area of 195 square km. The island is famous for its marble, which
was used in many ancient sculptures including the Venus of Milo (now in
the Louvre, Paris), the Nikea of Samothraki (also in Louvre) and many others.
Because of its marble, Paros has been an important part of civilization
since 5.000 BC.
Paros is a beautiful island, containing bays, nice lush valleys and gorges,
makes hiking a wonderful pastime in both summer and winter. Already for
centuries is Paros inspiration for many artists from
Europe and America.
The island has three main areas, Parikia (the main town and harbor) Naousa
and Lefkes. In Parikia we find the wonderful church of Ekatontapiliani (100
doors) which dates from the 4th century and which was built by Saint Helene,
on her way to Constantinople.
