Dirksland
Lucien den Arend devised the color scheme so that
the symmetric elements of the bridge would be separated from the programmed way
of our interpreting that which we see. The result is a wonderful composition of
juxtapositioned color planes. He reasoned that the bridge itself was a
construction which changed the landscape; and it would not be honest to tone it
down. If it is present it might as well show some pride and give visual
pleasure. He carefully chose the colors in relation to the natural tints as he
did not want the bridge to clash with nature.
