  ceramic grave vessels and phallic form - Bura/Asinda Sikka


 

 

 

 

 

Found to the North West of Niamey in the Volta Delta in Niger. 3d - 11th century. The teritory of the Songhai imperium, first discovered in 1975. The phallus symbols were placed in the grave along with personal artefacts like spear and garments. Afterwards the baura was put on the grave similar to our grave-stone. These objects, were accompanied by pots, jars, urns and terra cotta images of the family.
